Great Tasting - Pasture Raised - Non GMO - No Soy

Pasture-Raised Chicken at Green Acres

Green Acres Family Farmstead is a multi-generational family farm located in the little town of Boonsboro, part of Washington County, Maryland.

Joe and Ashley Heaney, along with their five kids and Joe’s parents, raise chickens in the pastures of their farm.

Our Story:

We started farming in 2004 with a small hog operation, which led to dairying three years later.  In 2015, we started raising pasture-raised poultry and realized that was where our primary focus should be and sold the dairy herd.

Our mission is to give our chickens a great life and provide our customers with an excellent product.

The chickens are protected by our three Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs – Jethro, Chase and Marshall.

What you feed the chickens is just as important as how much space they have to live in so the chickens are pasture-fed with a locally produced non-GMO, non-soy grain.

While the chickens are on pasture, they also have unlimited sunshine and fresh air. Though we are not organic, we do not use herbicides, pesticides or commercial fertilizers on our pasture.

As a family, we work together to handle our products from start to finish.  We do all the work – from animal husbandry to the washing and packing of eggs.  We also make the delivery directly to the customer, whether it is a home delivery or at one of the weekly farmers markets we attend.

You can find us at three regularly-held farmers markets and at restaurants we service in the Washington, DC area.

Over the years, our business has grown beyond our expectations and we are very thankful to God for our blessings and to our customers who help this small family farm grow and prosper.

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?

– Proverbs 27: 23-24
